Batman #26 - Story 2

October 11, 1944

"Recipe for Revenge"

Another charming little story of Alfred and unusual circumstances that allow him to capture a crook. In this case, Alfred leaves to get the ingredients for a huge dinner for Bruce and Dick who have not eaten properly in a week thanks to their activities as Batman and Robin. He forgets his wallet though, but doesn't realize it as he is bumped up against by a man in the market. He thinks the man pickpocketed him. In the end, we learn the man is a well known chef who he manages to save from getting shot by a gangster who is upset that the chef's testimony sent the gangster's brother to jail. In the end, with the gangster rounded up by Alfred, who acts as though Batman does and doesn't allow the gun pointed at him to intimidate him, and the chef safe, he offers to cook the meal for the three.

Like I said, a cute little filler story. Not a huge amount of plot, but humorous nonetheless. And what's next? Story three from this anthology issue.
